c. 1927; Brinkman Engineering Co. - Dayton, OH
Painted steel tabletop bowling game, The Bowling Alley #500, manufactured by the Brinkman Engineering Co. of Dayton, Ohio. This patented design (U.S. Patent No. 1,625,980, issued April 26, 1927 to Louis G. Brinkman) uses a spring-loaded plunger to launch balls down a long lane toward a set of miniature pins, with an integrated mechanical pin reset system housed at the rear.
The Brinkman Engineering Co. specialized in coin-op amusements and mechanical novelties in the 1920s, producing innovative small-scale entertainment devices for both arcades and home play. Their "Bowling Alley" models are particularly sought after for combining durability, bright enamel finishes, and clever engineering.
This example retains its original orange painted finish with applied black label. Includes wood pins, balls, and additional miniature projectiles. Surface wear, scratches, and paint loss consistent with play use. Plunger mechanism remains intact, though untested for operation.
